Neda Agha-Soltan: When a sniper shot her dead on Saturday the uprising got its martyr

Neda Agha-Soltan: When a sniper shot her dead on Saturday the uprising got its martyr

They banned memorial services and told friends not to speak publicly, but Iran's authorities were unable to stifle the story of a young woman called Neda, who was killed as she arrived at a protest in central Tehran on Saturday.

Film taken on a shaky mobile phone turned the 20-something protester into an overnight figurehead of the popular uprising, after it showed her bleeding to death. She had apparently been cut down by a rooftop sniper loyal to the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Yesterday, in defiance of their government, friends and family of the woman managed to tell the world about her short life, and tragic death.

Neda Agha-Soltan was a 26-year-old graduate of Tehran's Azad University, with a passion for music and travel.

Never previously politically active, she began attending mass protests because of the recent election results.

Hamad Pahani, a close companion who witnessed her death, told the Los Angeles Times that she was killed after agreeing to accompany him and two other friends to a protest on Saturday evening in the city's Freedom Square.

The group's car had become stuck in traffic on Karegar Street, near to the demonstration, at about 6.30pm. They jumped out of the vehicle to stretch their legs when Mr Pahani heard a gunshot.

Soon afterwards, he realised that Neda had fallen to the ground.

“We got out and stood to watch, and without her throwing a rock or anything they shot her,” he said. Mr Pahani told the newspaper that her final words were: “I'm burning, I'm burning.”

US President Barack Obama described footage of the incident as “heartbreaking”.

“We have seen courageous women stand up to brutality and threats, and we have experienced the searing image of a woman bleeding to death on the streets,” he said. “While this loss is raw and painful, we also know this: those who stand up for justice are always on the right side of history.”

Been following this story and a friend sent me a link www.myspace.com/yankeego. They have a song dedicated to her. Even if our president won't speak up for the Iranian people, we as Americans should. Neda means "voice" in Iranian. "You can kill the voice but you can't stop the sound" gave me chills and truly feel the impact. 2nd verse in the song. Give it a listen...remarkable!

an American Rachel Corrie was protecting children walking to school...and was run over by bulldozer by the occupying country....
but since it was israel, the world press and usa politicians didn't dare criticize israel for running over a USA citizen protecting children....

the banks are owned by the rothschilds/schiffs/warburgs...and through the central banks these families own the world...but the TRUTH WILL SET US FREE !

Seems mighty strange that a lone sniper would choose to kill a single woman at such a demo. Why? It was not going to stop the demonstrations, that is done by direct force in mass to initimate the demonstrators.

No, this smells so much like a set-up. She was possibly a random target, but the coordinated capturing of her death on mobile phone and its rapid release to the western media is too lucky.

We know that the CIA allocated $400M to covert ops in Iran, QED we know the culprits. Psyops.

We helplessly watch countries like Iran, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yugoslavia,Venezuela, Bolivia, etc. infiltrated and attacked and "collected" by these heinous governments.
The average American and Brit don't have the brains to see these crimes for what they are.

"My country, right or wrong". Sick.

Long live Iran and Venezuela!

I wonder about the sniper? Who was he, what were his motives, and why her? I have fallen into the rabbit hole of the net and wound up in never, neverland. Obama has worn out his welcome. We are now killing people with remote controlled drones under his watch. MEET THE NEW BOSS, SAME AS THE OLD BOSS! And he accuses the Iranian gov. of searing injustices! We need to rise up and take our country back!

I think Israeli, US, and British intelligence killed this woman, not an Iranian of either party. We are being lied to by our governments about Iran. And just think; Obama doesn't give a rat's nut about any of the Iranian people. It's all about greed, lies, power, and the desire to steal the Iranians oil. It's far more likely that this womam was killed by the Mosaad, the CIA, and/or MI6

Barack Obama should migrate to Iran and work for Iranians as he lacks that heartbreaking feeling for Americans, specially Rachel Corrie who was crushed by a an Israeli buldozer in Occupied Palestine in 2006. Obama might not even know what actually happened to Rachel.
Such high degree of hypocrisy is unique to Americans.

We made this discovery already with the Holocaust victims - only Jews do count. F. e. millions of Russians got murdered, but these as we know were only Communist.

This is sick.

Another example: unborn life seems to count in the US, but children of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan or elsewhere have been cremated by the flying gas chambers of the USA.

The 3. Reich is back - are we going to fight it? Are we a least able to neutralize it and tell the US and their allied thugs to go home?

Having the entire United states psi-ops mechanism pushing this story is what is keeping it going, plenty of crimes by a certain other middle eastern country far worse that didnt get this much press.
