Four Americans killed in Baghdad bomb attack

Published 24/06/2008 | 12:31

Four Americans and six Iraqis have been killed in a bomb attack on a council meeting in the Sadr City area of Baghdad today.

Officials say two US soldiers and two Americans working for the US State Department and the US Department of Defence were among the 10 victims.

The US military is blaming rogue elements of the Shi'ite Mahdi Army militia for the bombing.

Iraqi officials say the blast was caused by a suicide bomber, but the US says a suspect has been arrested, suggesting the bomb may have been planted.

The attack comes just a day after a gunman killed two US soldiers and wounded three others as they left a council building southeast of Baghdad.
