Friends mourn gun attack officer
About 100 friends and relatives of a New York City police officer who was gunned down along with his partner lined up outside a Queens church a full hour before his wake is set to begin.
The mourners are the first of hundreds of friends, relatives and fellow officers expected to pay their respects to Officer Rafael Ramos today.
In the evening, hundreds more are expected when the wake at Christ Tabernacle Church in the Glendale section of Queens opens to the public.
Mr Ramos' funeral is scheduled for tomorrow. Vice President Joe Biden is expected to attend.
Mr Ramos was killed in a daytime ambush on December 20 along with Officer Wenjian Liu as they sat in their patrol car on a Brooklyn street.
The gunman later killed himself.
