George Clooney arrested at Sudan protest in Washington DC
Hollywood actor George Clooney was today taken away in handcuffs after being arrested at a protest outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington.
The 50-year-old movie star joined his father Nick and a number of other protesters who were placed under arrest after being given three verbal warnings not to cross a police line before being taken into custody.
The protesters accused Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, of blocking food and aid from entering the county's border region with South Sudan.
After being handcuffed, Clooney was taken away in a US Secret Service van.
The actor’s publicist confirmed the arrest to TMZ.
“They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world,” the star’s publicist Stan Rosenfield told the US website.
