George Clooney to hand out $1m prize for humanitarians who risk lives for others
George Clooney is to present a $1m (£700,000) prize at a ceremony in Armenia celebrating individuals who risk their lives for others.
The Oscar award-winning actor (54) will hand out the prestigious gong later today at a special humanitarian conference.
Among the nominees are an American doctor, Tom Catena, who runs a hospital in war-torn Sudan that serves 500,000 people despite being repeatedly bombed and a Burundi woman, Marguerite Barankitse, who has saved the lives of almost 30,000 children.
Former Irish president Mary Robinson sat alongside Clooney on the prize selection committee.
