German Chancellor Angela Merkel 'injured during skiing accident'
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been injured during a skiing accident, according to reports from the AFP news agency.
It's understood Ms Merkel has been forced to cancel meetings as a result of the injury.
The German Chancellor ractured her pelvis during a skiing holiday in Switzerland, putting her on the sidelines for the next three weeks.
Her spokesman said she suffered what she first thought was just a bruise to her left rear pelvic area while cross-country skiing.
Doctors thentold her that the injury was in fact an "incomplete" bone fracture that will require her to rest for three weeks.
Merkel has had to cancel official appointments in the coming weeks but will continue to lead the government and hold cabinet meetings.
Her fall occurred "at low speeds" but the spokesman could not say if another person was involved.
