Chief Minister Fabian Picardo has emerged the winner in Gibraltar's general election

Chief minister Fabian Picardo has strengthened his grip on power in Gibraltar after a general election.

Mr Picardo, leader of the Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party, saw off a challenge from Gibraltar Social Democrat leader Danny Feetham.

The Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party - in alliance with the Liberal Party - has been in control for the past four years.

Voting took place on Friday and a result was announced today.

Mr Picardo claimed around 68% of the vote and substantially increased his majority.
