Golden Globes red carpet 'fun facts' from E! not so funny for fans - including 'Michael J Fox Parkinson's diagnosis'
'Fun facts' included year Michael J Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, writes John Mulgrew
Coverage of the Golden Globes took a bizarre turn this year after broadcaster E! was criticised for including so-called 'fun facts' during red carpet footage which included the year Michael J Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
The titbits of Hollywood-related information was slammed by online users on social media.
Hundreds took to Twitter in their droves to complain.
The entertainment network's coverage of one of the biggest nights in the movie calendar featured numerous 'fun facts' - which popped up throughout the evening.
One such 'fun fact' read: "Michael J Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991".
Another said: "Robert Redford was stricken with polio as a child".
It didn't take long for Twitter users to satirise the network's fact bubbles, with many making their own.
And there were yet more...
E! issued an apology to the Hollywood Reporter saying: "We regret the insensitive classification of Michael J Fox's Parkinson's diagnosis during our Eonline [sic] live stream. We understand the serious nature of the disease and sincerely apologize."
