Helicopter crew kidnapped in Darfur
The UN food agency has revealed that three Latvian helicopter crew members have been kidnapped in western Sudan.
UN World Food Programme spokeswoman Emilia Casella told AP that the three men were seized in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur province.
She said they were contracted to the UN Humanitarian Air Service, which delivers aid to poverty-stricken Darfur.
She said: "They are all Latvian nationals and are helicopter crewmen. We have no more information."
She declined to say whether the global body has received any demands for the men's release or if they know who their captors are.
