Hitman suspect held over murder
A key suspect in the alleged contract killing of Cyprus's only media baron has been ordered to be detained after he was extradited to the island.
The court in Nicosia approved a state prosecutor's request that 29-year-old Gregoris Xenofontos remain in custody for five days.
Police believe Xenofontos was the hitman in the January 11 murder of 41-year-old Andy Hadjicostis.
The killing was allegedly ordered after television host Elena Skordelli was sacked from a Hadjicostis-owned TV station.
Skordelli, her brother Anastasios Krasopoullis and another man are being tried on premeditated murder charges.
They have pleaded not guilty to plotting and ordering the killing.
Xenofontos flew to Moldova on January 14 and was extradited on Wednesday.
