A Pakistani commission investigating the US raid that killed Osama bin Laden has ordered the government to prevent the al Qaida chief's relatives from leaving the country without its permission.

Pakistani authorities recently indicated they were ready to send one of bin Laden's wives to her native country of Yemen.

It is unclear whether Pakistan's powerful security agencies will pay heed to the commission's demand.

Three bin Laden wives and several children have been detained since the May 2 raid in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.

The commission is tasked with determining how bin Laden hid in the garrison town and the circumstances surrounding the US raid, which has raised tensions between Islamabad and Washington.
