Roman Polanski will be placed under house arrest at his Alpine chalet as soon as possible, Swiss officials said yesterday, after a court's decision to release the 76-year-old director on £2.7m bail.
Polanski must wear an electronic bracelet, stay in his chalet in Gstaad, and surrender his identity documents.
The Justice Ministry is still deciding whether to extradite him to the US, where authorities want him sentenced for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.
Polanski fled the US for France in 1978. He was arrested in September on a US warrant.
