Iran holds fresh nuclear talks

Iran's foreign minister and the EU's top foreign policy chief have launched a new round of nuclear talks between Tehran and six world powers, putting a reported tiff behind them.

The two sides hope to reach an agreement by July which reduces Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for an end to sanctions choking Tehran's economy.

Today's negotiations in the Austrian capital, Vienna, are the second monthly meeting about a comprehensive deal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif is leading his country's delegation, while EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton negotiates at least formally on behalf of the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.

Iranian media reported yesterday that Mr Zarif had cancelled his usual pre-talks dinner with Baroness Ashton in protest at her recent meeting with Iranian opposition figures.
