Two al Qaida militants have ambushed a bus carrying security personnel in the San'a, the capital of Yemen, spraying the vehicle with gunfire and injuring 10 passengers.
Al Qaida violence shifted to the capital after a week of fighting in a lawless southern region where the local branch of the terror group has found safe haven.
A security official said the gunmen, moving on foot, opened fire on the bus as it was transporting security personnel back to their base in a crowded neighbourhood in western San'a. The gunmen fled.
In the south, Yemeni forces drove al Qaida militants from the town of Hawta on Friday after five days of heavy fighting.
