Kangaroo attacks family

When a dark intruder smashed through his bedroom window and repeatedly bounced on his bed, Beat Ettlin was at first relieved to discover it was only a kangaroo.

But his relief was short-lived as he heard his 10-year-old son scream and realised his family was in danger.

Mr Ettlin eventually managed to wrestle the thrashing and bleeding 90lb marsupial out through the front door of the family home in Canberra at 2am.

The kangaroo, which Mr Ettlin estimated was his height - 5ft 9ins - left a trail of blood through the house and claw gouges in the wooden frame of Mr Ettlin's bed.

Kangaroos rarely harm humans. But when they do, it is usually when they feel cornered.

The kangaroo vanished into the nearby forest.
