Man hacked into Obama Twitter site
A jobless Frenchman has admitted hacking into the Twitter accounts of the rich and famous, including Barack Obama, Britney Spears and Lily Allen.
The 24-year-old, who has not been named but whose username is “Hacker Croll”, was arrested this week in Clermont-Ferrand.
He was questioned by French police, with FBI agents listening in, before being released on bail to face trial in June.
If convicted he faces up to two years in prison and a £30,000 fine.
Prosecutor Jean-Yves Coquillat said: “He says it's the challenge, the game, that made him do it.”
He said initial investigations suggested Hacker Croll did not seek to profit from his Twitter activities or tweet in other peoples' names.
Mr Coquillat said he confessed to the hacking under questioning.
