Man held after British embassy fire

A 32-year-old man has been arrested by Dutch police after fire broke out at the British embassy in The Hague.

Police spokesman Yoeri Voogt said the man was detained near the embassy after the blaze early today in the the building, which stands in a historic, tree-lined avenue in the city centre.

Mr Voogt had no further details and said investigations into whether the man was involved in the fire are continuing.

Firefighters said the blaze has bee brought under control and nobody was injured.

Embassy spokesman Alex Lawrence said staff were waiting to return to the building as firefighters completed their work.
