A man has been accused of stealing Sir Elton John's heart-shaped glasses from a US museum display.

Matthew Colvin, 26, of Cordova, Tennessee, is charged with theft of property over 1,000 dollars (£660) from the Rock 'n' Soul Museum in Beale Street, Memphis.

The glasses were reported stolen on April 21 from the museum, which said Colvin visited on that day but was not connected to it or any employees.

Colvin is being held in Shelby County jail on 25,000 dollars bail (£16,500) after being transferred to Tennessee from DeSoto County, Mississippi.

Flamboyant glasses and outfits have been part of Sir Elton's signature look.
