Argentina football legend Diego Maradona lobbied the Nobel committee to give the Peace Prize to a human rights group in the South American country.
Maradona sent a letter to the committee in Norway declaring his support for the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo.
He cites the group's courageous search for children stolen at birth from women illegally detained by the dictatorship three decades ago, the love and care that they have shown in the cases of 102 recovered grandchildren, and their permanent search for nearly 400 that remain to be found.
Maradona says the grandmothers also deserve the prize for encouraging everyone to respect "the search for peace, truth and justice."
He signs the card "just another Argentine".
