Meredith Kercher killer Rudy Guede in new bid to clear his name
Lawyers for a man serving 16 years in an Italian prison for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in 2007 are seeking a new trial.
Rudy Hermann Guede, from the Ivory Coast, was convicted of killing Ms Kercher in Perugia, Italy, where she shared an apartment with US student Amanda Knox. Guede denied the charge.
Italian media said his lawyers filed the request on Tuesday, contending their client is innocent.
They also noted Ms Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, who steadfastly proclaimed their innocence, were acquitted last year by Italy’s highest criminal court.
It is unclear if a new trial could be granted since Guede has exhausted his appeals.
