Mexico blasts Perry terror comments

Claims by a leading American politician that Islamic fundamentalists could be entering the US from Mexico have been dismissed as "absurd".

Texas Governor Rick Perry, a Republican who may run for president in 2016, said last week "there is a very real possibility" that Islamic terrorists could be entering the US from Mexico across what he called an "unsecured" south-west border.

But he added that there is "no clear evidence" that they are.

Yesterday Mexican foreign relations secretary Jose Antonio Meade hit back.

He said Mr Perry's statements were based on "beliefs, speculation and absolutely unfounded and absurd analysis".
