A witness revealed that he heard the voice of a woman “shouting in pain” from the hotel room where Michaela McAreavey was found murdered.

Star witness Raj Theekoy told district magistrate Sheila Bonomally that he heard the victim shouting on three distinct occasions during the brief spell he was around room 1025 at Legends Hotel on the holiday island of Mauritius.

He also admitted that he saw both|murder co-accused, Sandip Mooneea|and Avinash Treebhoowon, near room 1025 minutes after he heard shouting.

Prosecuting counsel Mehdi Choony told the court that the witness had been granted total immunity from the prosecution by the director of public prosecution.

At first Theekoy thought that a couple were “fighting” in hotel room 1025, he told the hearing. Treebhoowon was |assigned the same block of rooms together with Theekoy and he later met Moonea who seemed “stressed”.

Theekoy described the moment he saw hotel director Brice Lunot running towards room 1025.

Theekoy told the court: “At |that moment Mooneea said, ‘I think there is a problem, let's go there’.”

Theekoy, Mooneea and Treebhoowon went towards room 1025 but they stayed outside the room.

He added: “The door was opened. We stayed outside.

“I saw a body there. Mr Brice was administering cardiac massage to the woman.

“Her husband was crying.”

The hearing will continue on Friday when the chief police |medical officer, Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, will give evidence.

It was Dr Kumar who conducted the autopsy on Ms McAreavey.
