Six children and a woman have frozen to death while trying to cross illegally into Turkey from Iran, according to reports.

Anadolu Agency said that 13 other migrants were taken to hospital for treatment, five of them in life-threatening condition.

Anadolu said they were part of a group of 33 migrants discovered by Turkish soldiers near the Turkish town of Caldiran, close to the border with Iran.

The private Dogan news agency said the migrants were from Afghanistan and were travelling in sleet and freezing rain.
