Miley Cyrus and the fake web tales that fooled the world
Friday, 1 January 2010
Jeff Goldblum’s Cliff Fall: In June last year the Australian Today Show reported that Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum had died after falling off a cliff while filming in New Zealand. The story then spread on Twitter. It later emerged the journalist behind the story had read a hoax internet report and had not verified its claims.
Gorgeous Guy: Dana Baca, a 29-year-old American, found himself the subject of much media attention after a picture of him was posted on the internet by an alleged female admirer. However, a journalist investigating the internet celebrity discovered that most of the people who had posted messages shared the same IP address, which was then traced back to Baca himself.
MILEY’S car crash: In 2008 a faked news report alleged that teen star Miley Cyrus had died in hospital as a result of a road collision. Cyrus is, of course, alive and well.
