Murder rap after heart attack death

A California boy has been charged with murder after prosecutors said a robbery attempt led a market owner to have a fatal heart attack

A 14-year-old California boy has been charged with murder after prosecutors said a robbery attempt led a market owner to have a fatal heart attack.

Dong Suk Kang died after the boy tried to steal two bottles of vodka from the store in Oakland and a struggle ensued.

When the teenager fled, Mr Kang jumped in his car to give chase and lost consciousness a few roads away. He died at a hospital.

Post-mortem results are pending, but prosecutors say it appears the 57-year-old had a heart attack.

The Oakland Tribune reports that authorities filed murder and robbery charges.

Alameda County prosecutor Allison Danzig said if someone dies during a violent crime, the offender is responsible for the death.

The teenager's name has not been released.
