New York names street after U2
Wednesday, 4 March 2009
They once famously sang 'Where The Streets Have No Name' -- but now the Irish rockers can boast of having a street named after them.
Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam were special guests of honour in New York where a portion of West 53rd Street was officially renamed U2 Way.
The sign on the street was unveiled by New York city council speaker Christine Quinn and New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, U2's new album 'No Line On The Horizon' is destined to hit number one in Britain at the end of the week, with first-day sales of 65,000, industry figures and the Official Charts Company said yesterday.
The group's 12th studio album is expected to be one of the pop world's best-selling in 2009, and strong sales would provide a boost for an industry struggling with poor physical record sales.
