Nigerian forces target sect hideout
One person was killed as Nigerian soldiers raided a suspected hideout of members of a radical Islamist sect, the country's military said.
Brig Gen Iliyasu I Abba said the raid happened in the city of Kano.
He said soldiers also arrested three women and two children in their operation, while one suspect escaped.
Gunfire echoed around the Kano neighbourhood where soldiers launched their attack.
Gen Abba said authorities believe the hideout was used by gunmen from the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram who launched an attack on Sunday that killed at least 16 people on a university campus in Kano where church services were being held.
Boko Haram is waging an increasingly violent sectarian fight against Nigeria's weak central government.
