A passenger airline bound for the Czech capital Prague was forced to make an emergency landing after the captain died in mid-flight

Czech Airlines spokeswoman Hana Hejskova said the captain of the plane, which was carrying 46 passengers, died during a flight from the Polish capital of Warsaw.

The ATR propeller aircraft landed under the control of the co-pilot and no one was injured.

Ms Hejskova said the safety of the passengers was not threatened because the airline's pilots are trained to deal with such incidents.

Doctors in Prague could not revive the captain after the plane landed on Wednesday.

The spokeswoman didn't give any details about the cause of the death. The pilot was not identified.

"Safety of passengers was not threatened. The landing was conducted without complications by the second pilot. Unfortunately the life of the captain could not be saved," said Ms Hejskova.
