A bomb in central Kabul has killed a police officer and wounded three other people, an Afghan interior ministry official said.

Abdul Saboor, an officer with the ministry's counter-terrorism unit, said the bomb went off as a senior police officer attempted to defuse it. Two other police officers and a civilian were wounded.

The blast occurred in an area near several government buildings, including the finance and defence ministries.
