Protests against Haitian president

Protesters demanding that Haiti's outgoing President René Préval leave office immediately set up burning barricades and threw stones at police and UN peacekeepers.

Riot police fired shots in the air to try to disperse about 200 demonstrators, who shouted “Préval must go” and set tyres and piles of rubbish on fire in Port-au-Prince.
