Polish police have seized cocaine worth around £18 million that arrived via Belgium in a shipment of bananas from Colombia.

Warsaw police spokesman Mariusz Mrozek said the record haul of 178kg of 90% pure cocaine was seized near the city on Saturday, hidden in a truckload of bananas.

Mr Mrozek said police have arrested a 40-year-old Pole who drove the truck from Belgium, where the shipment arrived by sea.

Police are trying to track down other people involved in the illegal shipment and also to determine whether the cocaine was destined for Poland or another country.
