Remains of British pilot Andrei Posteinicu identified through DNA testing

DNA testing has confirmed that remains found after a plane went missing off the south east coast of Florida belong to a missing British pilot.

Officials say 37-year-old Andrei Posteinicu left Marathon in the Florida Keys on February 7 2014. He was scheduled to land in Vero Beach that evening.

His plane was reported missing the next day and the Martin County Sheriff's Office and US Coast Guard searched for several days. Debris from the plane washed up on a beach along with his backpack and a boot.

Christine Weekes, of the District 19 Medical Examiner's Office in Fort Pierce, said the cause of death is listed as an accidental plane crash.

Mr Posteinicu was Romanian but lived in the UK. He was visiting Florida when he crashed in the rented plane.
