Rosie O'Donnell's daughter Chelsea, 17, has been missing for a week

Police are searching for the 17-year-old daughter of US television personality Rosie O'Donnell, who has been missing since August 11.

Chelsea O'Donnell has not been seen since leaving the family's home north of New York City last Tuesday.

She left the house with a therapy dog and has not been taking her required medication, according to Ms O'Donnell's spokeswoman, Cindi Berger.

"Chelsea, like millions of people, lives with mental illness. It has been a difficult road for Chelsea and her family and they just want her back safe." Ms Berger said.

She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt hoodie, dark ripped blue jeans, grey Converse trainers and a black backpack.

Police authorities in Rockland County, New York, have been searching for her since Sunday.

Ms O'Donnell tweeted that her daughter may be in New York City, which is about 25 miles south of her home in Nyack.
