A library has installed plastic screens to block computer monitors from passers by after complaints about visitors viewing pornographic material.
San Francisco Public Library also plans to post warnings on all computers reminding patrons to be wary as to what others may see when they are using the online facilities.
Rather than censor or filter images, the library is hoping the measures will encourage visitors to be more discreet while browsing the web.
"We're always looking for any kind of elegant solution that strikes a balance between the right to privacy and folks that want to use the library for any other intended purpose," librarian Luis Herrera told local news channel KTVU.
