Schoolchildren killed in road crash

The crash occurred on the outskirts of Jalandhar, 250 miles north of the Indian capital Delhi

Twelve schoolchildren and their driver died when their bus collided with a lorry laden with bricks in northern India.

Police officer Santokh Singh said the crash happened as the children were on their way to school on the outskirts of Jalandhar, 250 miles north of the capital Delhi.

Seven children and the bus driver died instantly and another five children died later in hospital.

Police are looking for the lorry driver, who fled after the accident, Mr Singh said.
