A US state senator has apologised for misusing more than 60,000 dollars (£37,200) in political campaign donations at casinos and filing false reports to conceal it.
Nebraska attorney general Jon Bruning said Brenda Council agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanour charges of filing false campaign reports that omit the casino withdrawals and cash deposits.
In a statement, Ms Council said she "made an error in judgment" and that she took "full responsibility".
The Democratic senator said she was receiving professional treatment for a gambling addiction and would not "give up or quit fighting for the issues".
Her opponent, Ernie Chambers, a long-time enemy of casino gambling in Nebraska, said he hoped people would see that if the addiction could bring down somebody with education, intelligence and a successful political career, it could do it to anybody.
