A man who says his son was shot to death after his van struck and killed a toddler on a Milwaukee street says a teenager also shot at the scene was an innocent by-stander.

The 15-year-old boy died in hospital.

Archie Brown Senior says his son, Archie Brown Junior, had got out of his van after striking the two-year-old and picked up the boy.

Mr Brown says a neighbour riding with his son told him the teenager came out of a house near the scene and was trying to help when both were shot.

The victims have not been officially identified.

The elder Brown says his son was a great father to his four children.
