Six dead in Yemen bomb raid clashes

Clashes in the Yemen capital have left five suspected militants and one member of the special forces dead, as security forces launched an operation to find the perpetrators of the attack on the country's defence ministry which left 52 people dead.

The gun battles happened over the past 24 hours as security forces raided several homes in the ministry's vicinity in Sanaa, Yemeni security officials said.

During the attack on Thursday, which also involved a suicide car bomb, the ministry came under heavy gunfire from nearby houses.

Early on Friday morning, the Yemeni branch of al Qaida said it carried out the attack.
