Spanish ferry fire: Passengers abandon ship off Mallorca
Up to 170 passengers have been evacuated from an Acciona Trasmediterranea ferry off the coast of Mallorca.
The 'Sorrento' ferry had set sail shortly before midday from the port in Palma de Mallorca and was heading to Valencia.
Three members of the crew have been flown to hospital by helicopter after having inhaled smoke from the blaze.
"Due to a fire, the Sorrento may sink in its current location," the Balearic Port Authority said via Twitter.
A marine rescue service spokesperson said evacuation was taking place 18 miles west of Dragonera.
The ferry sent out distress signals, the Ministry of Public Works said in a statement, and passengers were picked up in from lifeboats by several ships.
A port authority said 170 passengers were rescued but sea rescue services were unable to confirm the number.
