Teenager accused of molesting young girl in Belfast

By Alan Erwin

A teenage boy has appeared in court accused of sexual activity with a child in Belfast.

The 17-year-old youth is charged in connection with an alleged incident in the city in June last year.

He faces one count of intentionally engaging in sexual touching with a girl under 13.

The accused, who cannot be identified because of his age, attended Belfast Magistrates Court along with his father.

District Judge Liam McNally cleared the public gallery before the charge was put to him.

Asked if he understood the alleged offence, the youth replied: "Yes sir."

A PSNI officer said he could connect the teenager to the charge.

No further details of the alleged incident were disclosed during the hearing.

However, a prosecution lawyer requested an adjournment for further investigations to be carried out.

She told the court: "The defendant's mobile phone has been seized and that's getting forensically examined."

Judge McNally agreed to put the case back to April 11, for the youth to appear on that date at Belfast Youth Court.
