Three killed as car hits train on crossing

Three people were killed when a car collided with a passenger train in Louisiana.

State police said three other people were injured and taken to hospital following the incident on Tuesday night involving an Amtrak service in Iberia Parish.

All of those killed and injured were in the car. No-one on the train was injured.

Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert said the Sunset Limited train was en route from Los Angeles to New Orleans when it hit a vehicle that was on the tracks at a crossing. There were 119 passengers on the train.

The train resumed its trip about three hours later.
