Tourist dies in Jamaica poisoning

An Argentinian tourist has died after apparently suffering from food poisoning in Jamaica

An Argentinian tourist has died and 10 other people have fallen ill in an apparent case of food poisoning among holidaymakers in northern Jamaica.

A spokeswoman for the Argentine Embassy in Kingston identified the dead tourist as Eldo Alfonso Malaspina. His age, home town and the name of the villa in St Mary parish where he was staying were not identified.

Officials said the tourists fell ill on Wednesday after sharing a supper of fish and potato salad, and were rushed to hospital.

Mr Malaspina was reported dead on arrival and 10 other tourists are being treated. Their nationalities are not yet known.

Health ministry workers are testing samples of what the tourists ate.
