Tunisian policeman shot dead in attack in Sousse

A policeman has been killed and another two injured after two men on a moped opened fire with a rifle in Sousse, Tunisia.

The officers were waiting for transportation to the town Kairouan from the low-income neighbourhood of Hay Zohour when they were attacked.

Police are searching for the attackers after they drove away.

A gunman killed 38 tourists on a beach in Sousse on June 26 in an attack the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for.

Tunisian police have been carrying out sweeps across the country, arresting hundreds in an effort to clamp down on the terrorist threat against the state.

Government officials blame neighbouring Libya for harbouring militants targeting the country.
