Two killed in Miami shooting

Two people have been killed and 10 wounded in a shooting in Miami.

The dead included a 20-year-old man and a teenage girl, and a 17-year-old girl was critically wounded in the early morning shooting near a road junction in the Liberty City neighbourhood, police said.

Miami police spokeswoman Frederica Burden said investigators are trying to figure out what happened.

The pavement was littered with dozens of spent shell casings marked by blue police cones and shattered glass. Some relatives standing nearby said they were afraid to talk about the shootings.

A spokeswoman at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital said she could not release information, including how many people were taken there. She also said the patients had chosen not to release information about their medical conditions.

Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll told reporters that a large crowd was at the scene when rescue units arrived.

He described an "emotional scene outside with family members crowding around".

There was no word on a motive for the shooting or any possible arrests.
