Tycoon arrested over attack on Cambodia TV star

Cambodian authorities have arrested a tycoon who sparked national outrage for a vicious assault against a female TV star that was captured on video.

Sok Khemrin, chief of the Interior Ministry's penal division, says property magnate Sok Bun was charged today with intent to commit violence and will be held at a Phnom Penh prison pending trial.

Sok Bun had left the country after the video from the July 2 attack against actress and TV personality Ek Socheata began circulating on the internet.

He returned home today and was escorted by police to the Municipal Court, where he was questioned and charged.

The attack sparked anger in Cambodia, where the wealthy often act with impunity and buy their way out of trouble.
