United States to weigh up Russian offer of military talks on Syria
Secretary of State John Kerry says the Obama administration is weighing an offer from Russia to have military-to-military talks over the situation in Syria.
Mr Kerry said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had made the proposal in a phone call on Tuesday and that the White House, Pentagon and State Department were all now considering it.
Mr Kerry suggested that he favoured such an idea, noting that the United States wants a clear picture of what Russia's intentions are in Syria following a recent military build-up there.
Mr Kerry said Mr Lavrov had told him that Russia was only interested in fighting the Islamic State group in Syria.
But Mr Kerry stressed it remained unclear if that position would change.
