US drone targets Pakistan militants

Published 12/06/2014

A suspected US missile strike has killed at least 10 people in a north-western tribal district of Pakistan near the Afghan border.

Pakistani intelligence officials said a pair of American drones dropped three missiles on a militant compound and a vehicle early in Ghulam Khan town of North Waziristan.

The strike came hours after an earlier strike, also in North Waziristan, killed three militants, marking the resumption of the CIA-led programme in Pakistan after a nearly six-month hiatus.

North Waziristan is home to a mix of local and al-Qaida-linked foreign militant groups.
