Barack Obama 'will be assassinated within months' if he wins presidency
Monday, 11 February 2008
Hopkins, the world light-heavyweight boxing champion, told The Independent on Sunday: "I don't think America is ready for an African-American in the White House. If he gets the nomination they won't let him become president, but if they do, it will be for a short time, maybe less than a month or two. His life would be in jeopardy.
"People may say it is time for change but when it comes down to it, I don't think America is ready for that type of heat."
Hopkins, 43, arguably the most politically controversial figure in US sport since Muhammad Ali, has been accused of being racially motivated for saying he would "never lose to a white boy". He refused to retract the comment when he came face to face this week with Calzaghe, the undefeated world super-middleweight champion, in London.
In a week that saw British sport angered by the racist abuse in Spain of Lewis Hamilton, Hopkins said: "I make no apology. People who know me know why I said it. I don't know what kind of world you live in here, but over there, across the Atlantic, I know racism exists and you can't convince me otherwise."
However, the Philadelphia-born Hopkins, known in the ring as "The Executioner", insists he is not racist, and says he hopes Hillary Clinton is the next president. "I want Hillary to win. As I said, I do not think Obama would survive for too long if he won and Hillary seems the best person for the job, even though I call myself a Republicrat.
"For me, she has the experience – she has already been a president for eight years. Bill had the title but there was a lot of pillow-talk at night so when she gets into the White House, hopefully, we'll be getting two for one. I don't really care what happens as long as they get Bush out of there. They talk about terrorism, but we've got a terrorist in the White House who picks the troops up by saying 'We're going to war – rumble young man, rumble."
As an 18-year-old ghetto kid, Hopkins served a jail term for "beating up pimps and prostitutes" but reconstructed his life through boxing, setting up a foundation which builds playgrounds in Philadelphia for underprivileged children.

It s absoulutely ridiculous that people who claim to be un-biast, can so easily think that Obama will be assassinated. i hope he lives up to all his talk and becomes one of the best presidents yet. everybody that can say he will not reign for long because of his race or his democracy choices need to think outside the box and hope he can do america proud!!!!

Pete, It is a shame that people have to judge by skin color instead of what is in their heart. Their morals and values. I am from North carolina also, but an Appalachain American politically correct for hillbilly. LOL. having served 12 years in the military and with a mix of people you cannot find in any US city we all learned to leave our preconceived notions about others behind and depend on each other to save each others life, for camaraderie, fellowship and hung out together at home and in ports all over the world. I am a colorblind white man who will be voting for Obama only because I believe he is the best man for the job. I really do not care who is a majority or minority as i make freinds where I go and it may not be popular but I am outspoken about people who act racist and call them on it. Not in a threatening way but in a way to open some dialogue to try and let them see how ignorant it really is. We need to be Americans and do away with the politically correct labels.

Hopkins is right; over here (the USA), racism is rampant. I'm Black myself, and I've lived near Philly. I see it more and more, people of Euro-American background, becoming more regressive in their racial identity, turning more and more towards a "European-pride" point of view. It's as if they are scared because they (the White Americans) know that they are becoming a smaller portion of the American population every year. Heck, every month! I don't know why. I wish it wasn't like that. I used to have a White buddy in Charlotte, North Carolina. He and I did a lot together, went to sports events, the whole bit. We didn't care about each other's skin color. I'm still in contact with him (I live on the West Coast now). I hope more White Americans are like him but I'm not sure. Here in LA, I must admit, I have no White friends. Not one. I'm afraid of what is coming in the U.S. They talk about a racial "war" here. You guys in Belfast would know about that. I'm afraid.
