A suspected US missile strike on a car in a southern Yemeni province has killed two brothers thought to be al Qaida militants, officials say.
Yemen's defence ministry says two al Qaida suspects were killed in Shabwa province early on Thursday but did not say how they died.
Shabwa security and tribal officials reached by telephone said the two are brothers Abdullah and Mosaad Mubaarak.
They did not say why they suspected it was a US strike.
Yemen is home to one of the most active al Qaida branches.
The government's fight against the militants has been disrupted by months of mass street protests demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh's removal.
