Vanessa-Mae cleared in ski fix case
Pop violinist Vanessa-Mae has been cleared of helping to fix Alpine skiing races so that she could qualify for the Sochi Winter Olympics.
However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed the British musician, who represented her father's native Thailand, should have been ineligible for the 2014 Games because the qualifying events in Slovenia were "so defective".
The court lifted Vanessa-Mae's four-year ban, imposed by the International Ski Federation, meaning she can try to qualify for the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The CAS panel said "a number of irregularities had occurred in the organisation and management of the four races" in January 2014, which raised Vanessa-Mae's racer status.
However, the court said there was no direct evidence to implicate Vanessa-Mae in fixing.
Vanessa-Mae finished last out of 67 in the Giant Slalom event at Sochi.
